ESTACA AND ARTS ET MÉTIERS TEAM UP TO OFFER DUAL DEGREE IN IMMERSIVE TECHNOLOGIES

ESTACA ARTS ET EMTIERS SIGNATURE DOUBLE DIPLOME 2023
News

ESTACA, a leading European engineering institution in the field of transport and sustainable mobility, has just signed a partnership agreement with the Arts et Métiers Laval Institute to enrol its students in the Management of Interactive 3D Technologies (MTI3D) Master’s programme.

Application areas for virtual and augmented are growing rapidly, especially in the transport sector, creating new needs for skills. Qualified specialists are sought to design simulation systems, implement new human-machine interfaces, and develop immersive, collaborative applications.

To help address these needs, starting in autumn 2023, fifth-year students at ESTACA will have the opportunity to enhance their training in the field of immersive technologies by enrolling in a dual degree in partnership with Arts et Métiers. Designed to train experts in this area, the programme awards a Master’s degree in Science and Technology with an industrial engineering specialisation, in addition to an ESTACA engineering degree. At the end of the programme, engineering graduates will be able to create new products and services for mobility based on virtual technologies (virtual reality, augmented reality, Web3D).

Jean-Michel Durepaire, General Director of ESTACA, said: “The challenges posed by digital transformation are central to our 2023-2030 strategic plan. This partnership dovetails with our desire to provide students with training aligned with manufacturers’ new needs for skills, to transform the mobilities of tomorrow. Through this partnership, we seek to consolidate our students’ knowledge and skills in the field of immersive technologies and human/machine interfaces. It’s a real opportunity to be able to collaborate with Arts et Métiers in this area.”

A PROGRAMME WITH A WIDE RANGE OF CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The curriculum focused on research and industry includes over 400 hours of training to build students’ skills and concludes with a six-month internship at a public or private research laboratory or company. The two schools have worked together to organise the programme so that students may both complete their final year at ESTACA and enrol in this new specialisation. Arts et Métiers has offered to welcome up to 10 ESTACA students every year at the Laval institute. Admissions will be based on individual interviews after preselecton of applicants.

This master’s programme also gives students the opportunity to work on a long-term project. Depending on their career plans, they may either focus on R&D in connection to a real problem facing an industry partner, or on a research project with the aim of publishing the results of their work at an international conference The programme is available through initial and continuing education and prepares students to go on to PhD studies to pursue an academic career, or to work in a wide range of careers, such as R&D manager, virtual or augmented reality engineer, IT project manager, consultant or start their own company.

Simon Richir, Director of the Arts et Métiers Laval Institute, and Olivier Christmann, Head of the MTI3D Master’s said: “Art et Métiers’ MTI3D Master’s is built around project-based learning. Students develop nine projects over the course of the academic year. Some of these projects are individual, but most often they're team-based, allowing them to apply technical skills and develop their soft skills. Welcoming students with multidisciplinary profiles is part of the  MTI3D Master’s DNA. We’re thrilled to welcome the ESTACA engineering students, who will work alongside our first-year master’s students, designers and engineering students in the Arts et Métiers Grande Ecole programme.”
