Arts et Métiers will offer training for future technicians and engineers in the field of electric batteries.

France aims to produce 2 million electric and hybrid vehicles by 2030! But to do so, it must overcome the lack of operators, technicians and engineers with expertise in manufacturing, installing and maintaining electric batteries.

A PROJECT FUNDED BY FRANCE 2030

“L’École de la Batterie” (The Battery School), a project funded by  France 2030 through a €20 million investment, has committed to training a new generation of talent to support the industrial transformation toward electric vehicles.

Its goal? Build an entire battery value chain, from raw materials, to production to repair and recycling.

L’École de la Batterie brings together 16 organizations specialising in technological and industrial challenges of the future (companies, competitiveness and business clusters, laboratories and training organizations) and is coordinated by Verkor, a leading French manufacturer of electric vehicle batteries with a high level of recyclability.

TWO NEW BACHELOR’S DEGREES FROM 2024

As part of this project, Arts et Métiers will open two new Bachelor’s Degrees, in Product Life Management and Electrical Engineering, offered in Chambéry and Lille. In addition, existing training programmes (Master’s and Mastères Spécialisés) will be enhanced and three PhDs will be established.

A working group has been formed to determine the educational content: Tom Bauer (teacher researcher), Sylvain Bigot (lecturer), Alain Cornier (Director of the Chambéry institute), Philippe Degobert (Director of the Lille campus), Anne Morel (Academic Director), Jean-Benoît Kopp (teacher-researcher), Sébastien Fernandez (JENII project manager) and Nadège Troussier (Vice President for Academic Affairs).

An educational engineer and two lecturers have also been hired.

Arts et Métiers has been allocated a budget of nearly €1 million to implement this project.
